Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez feels that he and the Nerazzurri must agree a new contract before the end of the season.

The 26-year-old dropped a major contract hint while speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, following his team’s 1-1 Serie A draw with Lazio.

As things stand, Martinez is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

However, by all indications the Nerazzurri want to extend their captain’s deal.

There have reportedly been talks between Inter and Martinez’s representatives for a number of months now. However, these have yet to result in an agreement.

That may not be far away, however.

Inter certainly won’t want things to drag on for too much longer. They will want clarity on the future of a key player like Martinez.

And according to the player himself, an agreement may not be far away at all.

Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez: “Need An Agreement On New Contract This Week”

Asked about his future, Martinez said that “[The club and his agent] are the ones who take care of that side of things.”

“We just focus on the pitch,” continued the Argentine international.

“We’re calm. Today we’re just enjoying the parties with all of the fans who were alongside us once more.”

“I don’t know what will happen,” Martinez continued. “But certainly this week, before the end of the season, we have to find an agreement.”

Meanwhile, Martinez also gave his thoughts on the Serie A trophy presentation. “I couldn’t wait for this special day to arrive,” said the Inter captain.

“It’s the last home match.”

“We wanted to win. But we came up against a team who are fighting for Champions League football.”

Martinez said that “We played a great match.”

“We worked hard, all of my teammates and the staff. We deserved this Scudetto.”

“We have to proud of what we accomplished,” added the Nerazzurri captain.

“We had an excellent season. The path to the top is always difficult over a season with 38 matches.”
